We are a Lehigh Valley Volunteer Network dedicated to placing rather than killing homeless animals. We provide volunteer support to any animal welfare organization interested in saving homeless animals, rather than killing them. At this writing, approximately 5000 healthy or treatable animals are killed in our Lehigh Valley each year due to obsolete sheltering practices.
Many U.S. cities, counties and even states have succeeded at instituting more intelligent and progressive sheltering models where all homeless animals are saved except those too sick or vicious to be rehabilitated. Unfortunately, a major LV shelter operates by an easy-to-manage-but-outdated-inhumane model, where most incoming animals are killed with only a small percentage saved. Volunteers and staff have observed a kill rate of approximately 70%, with a placement rate of about 30%. This shelter boosts of a low “Return To Shelter Rate”, which is true because so few animals are placed.
Please join us in our mission to help make the Lehigh Valley a humane valley, once and for all. Warm Hearts volunteers, along with countless others are succeeding in creating humane options for our Lehigh Valley. Please hit the volunteer tab to get started.
